Not a Dinner and Movie Kind of Night: Date Night Ideas

Oh date night, the thought of you can bring such joy and horrifying tears to some. Anything can happen from meeting the love of your life to filing a restraining order against your blind date with the creepy killer eyes. Either way the whole Dinner and a Movie things is overrated and over done-surely there is something more creative you can spend your time doing.

So for those looking for a few good ideas, try these and have fun mixing and matching.

Wake up at 4am & watch the sunrise together
I don’t think this is first, second or third date material, but perhaps on the fourth. What could be better than sitting close on a rooftop somewhere, talking & laughing & watching the sun come up? Take a flask of hot coffee for extra points.

Go to an art gallery on a Saturday afternoon
You’ll learn a lot about the person you’re standing next to if you go & check out art together. Plus it gives you something so much more stimulating to talk about than the last episode of Dancing with the Stars or Love and Hip Hop Atlanta!

Mix CD trade
Yes I know that mix CDs are antiquates, so grab your iPhone or iPod and make your maybe your playlist there… Either way, sharing & discussing music is one of the world’s great guilty pleasures.

Do something neither of you have done before
Pottery class? Swing dancing lessons? Hiring a moped & driving out into the country? Who knows, but it’s nice to share an experience that is new to both of you!

Pretend to be tourists
Go & do the stuff you’ve never done because, well, you’ve always lived here. Wear a baseball cap, khakis & maybe a back pack with a map in hand for a feeling of real authenticity, & don’t forget to take plenty of photos!

I love the idea of karaoke; you’ll instantly know how outgoing your date is based on how they meet this challenge. You’ll also get to see what their music taste is like. Plus, usually in my experience, a day-glo private room & weird drinks are part of the package. Who could say no to that?

Make cupcakes together
You know you want to.

Play truth or dare
